About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF removes password-based encryption from a PDF — assuming you know the password. This is useful when you need to edit, merge, or otherwise process a protected PDF and no longer need the protection.
The process happens in your browser. Neither the PDF nor the password is uploaded to any server.

When to use Unlock PDF
Merging a received protected PDF with your own documents
Most PDF tools refuse to operate on encrypted files. Unlock first, then merge/split/compress as needed.
Editing a password-protected form
Forms sometimes arrive protected. Unlock to fill them out or modify them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock a PDF without the password?
No. We can only remove protection when you supply the password — this tool is not a password cracker. If you have lost the password, there is no way through.
Is this legal?
Removing protection from a PDF you own or have explicit permission to access is legal. Bypassing protection on files you do not own is not.
What happens if I enter the wrong password?
The tool reports the password as incorrect and no file is produced. Nothing is transmitted off your device.
